Introducing Livid.com for Your WordPress Videos

For many years, we’ve recommended Vimeo as a good choice for hosting videos for your WordPress site

For a reasonable price, you could store videos with Vimeo and show them to your visitors without ads. This was a good alternative to YouTube which was free, but forced you to show ads.

But last year something really bad happened to Vimeo.

What happened to Vimeo?

In September 2025, Vimeo was sold to a company called Bending Spoons. Their business model is to cut as many staff members as possible, while also increasing prices.

Vimeo customers have been reporting price increases of 500% to 1,500%.

If you want to keep using Vimeo, we will keep supporting that platform here at MetaSlider. But we’re also going to be supporting more video platforms.

The first alternative to Vimeo

The first alternative we’ve added to the MetaSlider plugins is Livid.com.

Livid is a company founded by staff from Streamyard.com, which was an excellent podcasting platform … until it was also purchased by Bending Spoons. That’s the origin of the name: the staff loved the platform they built, but the soul was ripped out of the business, leaving them all pretty livid!

Livid.com is as close as you’ll find to a direct replacement for Vimeo. They provide ad-free video hosting that works with WordPress.

They have a migration tool for your Vimeo videos called “LOVE“. And the cost is actually more affordable than the original Vimeo prices, let alone the post-acquisition prices. There’s a generous free plan and the Pro plans start at $10 per month.

So if leaving Vimeo is on your to-do list, check out Livid.com. We now support their video platform in both MetaSlider Slideshow and MetaSlider Gallery.
